Three Reasons to Apply for the Job Even If You Don’t Fully Qualify
Part of my larger job search strategy this summer, I have decided that I am applying for jobs that a year ago I would not have applied to. I shared in previous posts that I was afraid of elevating my job title to match my qualifications.
In one of my posts, I explored my fears related to my perception of my ambitions.
I have been asked if I was overqualified for jobs I was a finalist for at least a half dozen times in the last couple of years. Previously, I chose to focus on how I was enough for the role. But perhaps I need to give myself room to grow into a role. Maybe it’s not the most senior leadership role, but perhaps an assistant dean or vice president role isn’t so far outside my strengths and skills. Now as I re-look at these positions, I need to closely examine my skills and how I might (or might not) meet all of the requirements.
Because in the past, I would avoid applying for jobs where I did not meet 100% of the requirements, and I am certain that has held me back from achieving my ambitions.
Read the three recommendations I share below to help you move towards achieving your ambitions, and how I plan…
