Add these questions to your list of questions you ask during the interview — and have answers if you get asked!

Are you job-searching right now? Or plan to search for a job soon? Is your department planning to hire new staff in the next few months? Consider these four questions that every candidate should ask new employers right now.

While geared towards higher education, the questions can be asked by anyone in any industry. Just change the emphasis to the industry where you’re currently looking for work to tailor the questions. Justin Zackal, from HigherEdJobs.com, suggests that candidates start asking these questions and I can’t agree more!

What is your institution’s/department’s top priority right now?

“If you’ve done your research and you have a hunch what the answer will be, asking this question will tee you up to add evidence about how you, the perfect candidate, will solve the problem and address their top priority.”

In my experience, you can get a sense that the job description addresses the priority, or if it will be extra work put on your plate. Depending on your goals, this might be a good or a bad thing. Better to know this in advance!

How has the workplace culture…
